Today we went along to the Hearing Dogs Spring Open day. We were helping out on the Puppy Sponsorship stand as Zara is a sponsor pup. We had our photo taken with sponsor pups Hebe (cocker spaniel) and Nutmeg (cockapoo):
Looking after a sponsor pup is a great honour as people generously donate from £3 per month to sponsor the pup through their training. Without donations such as these Hearing Dogs just wouldn’t be able to train as many dogs as they do and the waiting list for a Hearing Dog would be even longer!

Zara had a great time and was very excited to see her trainer, Heather (who she LOVES!) for extra cuddles and a few ear licks! She also met up with some of her pals, Casper, a black lab and Hetty, a golden cocker spaniel.
However, I think the highlight of her day was when her brother Zeus arrived. They haven’t seen each other for a few weeks so they had a good few minutes of proper brother/sisterly playtime. Bit of ear biting and pinning each other down – something you can only get away with, with your sibling!
The Puppy Sponsorship stand was right next to the ‘Demo ring’ so we had a great view of all the soundwork demonstrations. I love watching these demos as it’s such a wonderful showcase of how clever these pups are! It’s their moment to shine and show off all of their hard work and you can see that they thoroughly enjoy it!
Days like today make me feel very proud to be a part of the Hearing Dog family and hopefully after today there may be a few more volunteers to add to our community.
